Reuse

Each ton of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4,000 kilowatts of energy, and 7,000 gallons of water. This represents a 64 percent energy savings, a 58 percent water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution.

If everyone in the U.S. started using a reusable drinking container for one year, that would save enough crude oil to power a million cars for a year.

Aluminum is part of a closed recycling loop; it can be continually recycled into new cans. For every can recycled, enough energy will be saved to power a television for three hours.

Here are reuse policies you can implement:

  • Replace plastic bags with reusable bags.
  • Use tissues and towels made of recycled post-consumer content.
  • Purchase and utilize goods that have either pre- or post-consumer content.
  • Any leftover materials from previous projects should be kept and reused.
